Britney and Mel Gibson? On vacation?
Odd news just in from Entertainment Tonight. The show is reporting that Britney Spears and Mel Gibson are en route to Costa Rica on vacation together. ET spotted them leaving on a private plane early this morning. Sources tell ET that Mel is taking Britney and her father Jamie for a mini vacation at his home in Costa Rica. And while the two may appear to be an unlikely duo, Britney and Mel used to live in the same Malibu community and were spotted having dinner together at Studio City's Romanov restaurant in March.

Will 'Prince Caspian' dethrone 'Iron Man?'
It’s time to crown the Prince. After Speed Racer crashed and burned last weekend, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian should dethrone Iron Man after two weeks atop the box office. The movie is tracking extremely well with audiences, earning solid early reviews and should haul in about $75 million this weekend. No other major newcomer is out this weekend, possibly because everyone is clearing the decks for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which arrives May 22. So the Prince better grab his loot fast, because his reign will last all of six days. Expect Iron Man to continue to play well and bring in about $30 million, which would put its total haul well beyond $200 million.

Dunst Losing Battle With Alcohol Addiction?
Actress Kirsten Dunst has prompted speculation she is losing her battle with alcohol addiction just five weeks after leaving rehab, according to reports. During a break from filming while on location in New York to celebrate her birthday earlier this month, she was allegedly seen drinking and dancing with pals - including The Strokes' Fabrizio Moretti - at a local bar. A source tells U.S. magazine Star, "She got worse as the night went on. She started out pretty chilled, but hours later she was dancing and jumping like a crazed animal. She indulged in any guy who would have her attention. She also went up to several guys and started flirting with them hard-core. She was just completely out of it. It was obvious that whatever happened in rehab didn't stick."

ELLEN DEGENERES AND PORTIA DE ROSSI ARE GETTING MARRIED:

Yesterday, the California Supreme Court struck down a ban on gay marriage . . . meaning that it is indeed now possible for gay Californians to have REAL weddings that are legally recognized . . . instead of some lame "commitment ceremony". And it looks like ELLEN DEGENERES and PORTIA DE ROSSI may lead the charge to the same-sex altar. TMZ says that during a taping of her show yesterday, Ellen talked about the court's ruling . . . and followed it up by saying that she and Portia would indeed tie the noose. It's not clear when this episode will air. By the way . . . here's a quote she gave to the website of the gay publication, "The Advocate" "I'm thrilled that the California Supreme Court overturned the ban on gay marriage. I can't wait to get married. We all deserve the same rights, and I believe that someday we'll look back on this and not allowing gays to marry will seem as absurd as not allowing women to vote. P.S., I'm registered at Crate & Barrel."

Berry Denies Engagement Rumors
Actress Halle Berry has denied rumors she is secretly engaged to long-term boyfriend Gabriel Aubry. The Die Another Day star sparked reports she is planning to marry the father of her baby daughter Nahla after she was spotted wearing a ring on her wedding finger. A source tells us, "It's not an engagement ring. Halle just saw it and thought it was beautiful so she bought it for herself." Berry and Aubrey have been dating since 2005.

Heche: "I Have No Money"
Actress Anne Heche has blamed the cancellation of TV series Men In Trees for her inability to pay child support. The star was granted a reprieve in the monthly payments of $14,978 to her ex-husband Coley Laffoon for their six-year-old son Homer. In court papers, she says, "I am continuing to look for work, but I have no offers pending and the impending strike by the Screen Actors Guild reduces my prospects for work even further, Since January 18, 2008, I have been unemployed and had no income from employment except for one very short-term contract for a movie role for which I received a total of $65,000 approximately the amount I received for one episode of Men In Trees. I do receive some residuals from previous acting work. However, the amounts are nominal and are offset by recurring business expenses that must be paid whether or not I am working."

Quaid Campaigns For Patients' Rights
Actor Dennis Quaid is calling on the U.S. government to preserve patients' rights to sue drug makers for injuries. The Smart People actor's twin babies had to fight for their lives last year when they were mistakenly given a near-fatal overdose of blood thinner Heparin, and Quaid insists the mishap could have been avoided if there was a better system of marking medicines. California regulators fined hospital bosses $25,000 after concluding the failure of staff at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to follow their own procedures resulted in incorrect doses of the drug being administered to Quaid's infants and other children. Quaid and his wife Kimberly Buffington have sued Baxter International Inc, the maker of the blood-thinning drug given to his twins On Wednesday, Quaid said victims of harm from medicines should be able to seek damages from manufacturers in state courts. He says, "I believe if preemption of lawsuits is allowed to prevail, it will basically make all of us, the public, uninformed and uncompensated lab rats."

Barton Moves To Paris
Actress Mischa Barton has escaped the temptations of Hollywood following her 2007 arrest for driving under the influence (DUI) - by moving to Paris, France. The former star of The OC was sentenced to three years' unsupervised probation in April, after she was arrested in Los Angeles last year for driving under the influence of alcohol, possessing marijuana and driving without a license. But Barton is now eager to leave her wild ways behind her, and has temporarily set up home in the French capital. And the 21-year-old admits she loves the close proximity Paris has to Cannes, where she is currently attending the Cannes Film Festival. She tells People.com, "I'm living in Paris right now, so I thought I would come down for a few days. I've been coming here since I was 12, so I know the deal. It's always good fun." Asked why she chose to relocate to Paris, she adds: "No reason. I've just always wanted to move there. I'm enjoying some time off."

Cyrus Drops The Controversy For Innocent Milk Ad
Embattled teen pop sensation Miley Cyrus has turned her back on controversy to appear in an innocent new Got Milk ad. The 15-year-old Hannah Montana star hit the headlines at the beginning of May after photos she posed provocatively for during a Vanity Fair magazine shoot were leaked online. Topless and wrapped in a satin sheet, Cyrus became a target of family groups who felt she was too young to make such a sexy statement. But her latest photo, for America's Body By Milk ad campaign, is anything but controversial. The wholesome star sports a milk moustache while posing in her dressing room, wearing jeans, cowboy boots and a white vest. Cyrus admits she jumped at the chance to become one of the Got Milk celebrities, stating, "I've got to keep fit so I drink milk."

Judge Delays Madonna's Adoption Hearing
A judge at Malawi's High Court has postponed Madonna's adoption hearing until next week. The pop superstar and her director husband Guy Ritchie's adoption of two-year-old David Banda was expected to be finalized on Thursday. But the judge overseeing the case has cancelled Thursday's court date in order to allow him more time to liaise with adoption officials. Madonna's lawyer, Alan Chinula, says, "We are finished with the proceedings today from our side, and the judge has decided to reserve his ruling on the case until next week because he has to review the recommendations from the Malawi Human Rights Commission on the adoption laws of Malawi." A new date for the court hearing - which Madonna and Ritchie are not required to attend - is due to be announced in the next few days. The judge's final ruling will end a 20-month long saga, since Madonna brought Banda back to the U.K. from a Malawian orphanage in October 2006, when he was just 13 months old.

'The Ten Commandments' Tablets To Be Sold At Auction
Charlton Heston's most iconic movie treasures are to auctioned off as part of a massive memorabilia sale later this summer Tablets from The Ten Commandments and the kaftan and pallium the late Heston wore in Ben-Hur are among the items which will go under the hammer at the upcoming Profiles in History auction in Los Angeles on July 31 and August 1. The Ten Commandments tablets, which are expected to fetch up to $60,000, were one of four used in the 1956 movie classic, and are considered to be the best preserved. They were given to The Sands Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where they have been on display for many years. A spokesman for Profiles In History says, "These tablets retain the beautiful red and black-speckled patina of the Mount Sinai-inspired granite, with translucent white engraved letters and nearly pristine edges. There are few props in the history of film that are so easily recognizable, and so coveted by seasoned collectors of original Hollywood film relics. Overall the tablets remain in exceptional condition." Meanwhile, Heston's Ben-Hur costume is expected to fetch more than $12,000. The two lots are part of a 1,000 item haul, offered as part of Profiles in History's 32nd auction of Hollywood memorabilia.

Kiefer teases '24'
Kiefer Sutherland showed up at Fox's fall schedule presentation to tout the big 24 news of the day - its Nov. 23 two-hour prequel movie, to begin shooting next month in South Africa, reports USA TODAY's Gary Levin. And Kiefer offered a peek at the show's seventh season, due in January: No CTU, Jack on his own, and under attack, as usual. Carlos Bernard (Tony Almeida) and of course Chloe O'Brian (Mary Lynn Rajskub) are back, too. With extra time, "the writers took the time to map out the entire season before we started shooting," Sutherland says. "We've never had time to do that." Also new: "Remote-free TV," as Fox dubbed its plan to cut in half the usual commercial count for two new dramas, J.J. Abrams' Fringe and Joss Whedon's midseason drama Dollhouse.

Pauley on Couric: 'not well used'
Jane Pauley, making a red rare carpet appearance at Modern Bride's 25 Trendsetters of 2008 awards dinner in New York on Tuesday, had to pause for a minute, but eventually did weigh in on fellow newswoman Katie Couric, reports Women's Wear Daily. "The news business — nobody knows where the industry is or where it is going," said Pauley, when asked about Katie's CBS News gig. "It was a brave experiment. I think her strengths were unique but she was not well used. ... I hope she finds something in TV where her strengths will be used as opposed to her current leading role." Pauley, who was a sole anchor woman in Chicago in 1975, added, "I hope, like me, she feels proud she started something that was a challenge and the odds were long. I feel good about that."

Meanwhile, a guessing game is going on over at Cover Awards as to just how much the Brangelina twins photos will go for. Seems like $10 million is the popular estimate.

For her new movie Blindness, Julianne Moore traded her trademark scarlet locks for a dishwater blonde 'do. “This was not a movie that I could have used a wig for," she told USA TODAY's Anthony Breznican in an interview in Cannes today. 'Variety' reviews 'Sex and the City'
If you don't want to know - or you don't care - what Variety thinks of Sex and the City, no need to read on. For those who live for anything Sex, the trade paper basically gives it a so-so review, calling it "a "trifle half-hearted." The review (read the whole thing here) continues: "Although there’s pleasure in seeing HBO’s fabulous four reunited, writer-director Michael Patrick King doesn’t fully bridge the gap between TV and film — delivering major story flourishes but, too often, playing like a regular episode bloated to five times its customary length."

Inside the R. Kelly courtroom ...
R. Kelly's jury selection is a slow process. On Wednesday, not a single person made the cut and mostly because the candidates were full of excuses, says the Chicago Tribune. One of top reasons for getting out of jury duty: "I'm a fan of R. Kelly." Some of the excuses have caused Kelly to smirk, according to Essence's Natalie Y. Moore, one of the few reporters in the courtroom. She says the singer sometimes takes out yellow note cards and jots things down. So far 8 jurors have been chosen.
