It’s Double Heartbreak for Bill Beale as Kristy Lee Cook got engaged!
Kristy Lee Cook may be sad about getting the Idol boot last night, but today she's happy to say she's engaged. Cook, 24, said her boyfriend, Andrew Dobner, 25, first asked her on March 15. "We kept it on the down-low because I didn’t want to have to deal with that kind of stress from everything. I just wanted to focus on American Idol," the Oregon native said in response to an Us Weekly question during a press conference earlier today.
"The ring that he got me has got a marquee cut on it and has quite a few diamonds on it," Cook said. "We picked it out together a long time ago." The two haven't set a date yet, she said, but are aiming for "next June."

Holmes & Cruise Aides Dismiss Separation Reports
Aides close to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have dismissed reports that the couple is planning a trial separation as "absolutely false." An article in the new issue of magazine In Touch declares Holmes plans to move to Manhattan, New York from Los Angeles with the couple's daughter Suri. The exclusive story, which graces the front page of the publication, leads with the headline, 'Katie wants her life back'. As the three-year anniversary of her first date with movie star Cruise looms on April 29, sources claim the actress is tired of dressing up as Mrs. Cruise and playing the perfect wife in public. One insider tells In Touch, "Of course Katie still loves him (Tom), but she does often feel like the little wife that has to sit there quietly and smile serenely at everything he says." But her representative insists all talk of a broken marriage and an unhappy Holmes is ridiculous. A spokeswoman says, "She and her husband enjoy a close and loving relationship." According to the In Touch article, Holmes plans to move to Manhattan with her daughter to pursue her Broadway acting ambitions. A source says, "She'd love to go to Broadway to show the world she can act."

Britney Spears has been hit with a legal bill of almost $400,000. A Los Angeles court ordered the pop star to pay the cash to the numerous lawyers involved in all her legal affairs over the past three months. That includes her custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline and her conservatorship issues. Meantime, the restraining order against Britney Spears' pal Sam Lutfi has been extended as Britney gets back on track, taking voice lessons and working out at a gym to get her body in shape. Just in: ARE YOU READY FOR BRITNEY SPEARS AS THE NEW SPOKESWOMAN FOR BALLY'S TOTAL FITNESS? -- HER
ON-AGAIN/OFF-AGAIN MANAGER LARRY RUDOLPH IS TRYING TO PUT THE DEAL TOGETHER…

Duff Denies Lohan Rivalry
Actress/singer Hilary Duff has denied reports she and Lindsay Lohan don't get on - insisting any feuds between the pair were confined to their teens. Duff was accused of stealing Lohan's then boyfriend, pop star Aaron Carter, in 2002, but the 20-year-old insists they have both moved on since then. She says, "Supposedly, I stole Lindsay Lohan's boyfriend (Carter). We were, like, 13! And I've never stolen anyone's boyfriend! I don't know how you do that! She was talking about it and I wasn't. It made us both look bad and put up a big weirdness. Really, she was just a girl my age. We are fine now, by the way."

Judge Urges Rowling To Settle Out Of Court
A judge overseeing the legal battle between Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix author J.K. Rowling and superfan Steven Vander Ark has advised the pair to settle the dispute out of court. Judge Robert Patterson urged the two parties to take their legal fight outside the courtroom, claiming the case would almost certainly end in years of appeals because it involves many unresolved areas of U.S. law. The case continues.

Thurman Does Jury Duty
Uma Thurman landed back in court this month as she awaits the trial of a man accused of stalking her - she has been put on jury duty. The Gattaca actress was recently forced to undergo jury selection in New York City with other randomly-picked members of the public. Thurman wasn't selected and admits she was disappointed to miss out, although it would have caused her career chaos, as she is currently busy promoting new movie The Life Before Her Eyes.

Farrow Accuses Olympic Committee Of "Foul Play"
Actress Mia Farrow has hit out at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) - accusing the board of ignoring China's support for Sudan. The UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and human rights activist insists the Committee is brushing the crisis in Sudan's Darfur region to one side, stating they are "putting aside their humanitarian instincts." Earlier this year, Farrow praised director Steven Spielberg's decision to leave his position as artistic director for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing after months of urging the moviemaker to step-down from the role, calling the move "an extraordinary act of conscience."

Diaz Pulls Out Of Premiere Over Dad's Death
Cameron Diaz has pulled out of the London premiere of her new movie following the death of her father. Emilio Diaz died from pneumonia on Tuesday aged 58, after the illness developed from a recent bout of influenza. And the actress has cancelled all of her forthcoming engagements as a result, including the U.K. premiere of What Happens In Vegas next Tuesday with co-star Ashton Kutcher. The organizers say, "Sadly she won't be attending. We're waiting for more news but as far as we are aware the premiere is still going ahead as planned with Ashton." Shooting on her latest movie My Sister's Keeper has also been temporarily suspended to allow Diaz time to mourn.

'Jumper 'Star To Replace Hopper's Son In Craven Horror
Jumper star Max Thieriot is to replace Dennis Hopper's son Henry Lee Hopper in Wes Craven's new horror movie 25/8 - after the 17-year-old dropped out due to illness. Henry Lee Hopper was set to make his big screen debut in the legendary director's next project but was forced to withdraw from the film after contracting mononucleosis - an infectious throat disease more commonly known as glandular fever.

Rhames Blasts Press For Inaccurate Caretaker Death Reports
Ving Rhames has called on the press to issue a public apology to the family of his late caretaker Jacob Adams, after it was falsely claimed the employee had died as a result of an attack by the actor's dogs. He tells Tmz.com, "My friend who passed away, my caretaker, they found out it was a sickle cell attack that he had. I'm sorry, really, that the press gave such a negative report of the situation that his family had to deal with. The reason was sickle cell anemia, he only had three (dog) bites on him... I never even knew he had that (sickle cell). Even the coroner said there was no way the dogs could have done that (killed him). For his family to go through life thinking he'd been eaten alive by dogs, that's very different from a sickle cell attack. I would just like the media to make an apology to Jacob's family." Rhames' dogs - three mastiffs and one bulldog - were originally quarantined but have since been returned to the actor.

OMG: 'Gossip Girl' opts for TV only
Just in from the CW: If you want to watch the five remaining episodes of Gossip Girl, you'll have to tune in on your television and watch them the old-fashioned way (or on your DVR, of course). No online streaming will be available. The show returns to the air with original episodes Monday (8-9 p.m. ET).

'Houdini' heads to the stage
Just announced: New original musical Houdini will debut on Broadway in the spring of 2010. The creative team includes Danny Elfman (music), David Yazbek (lyrics), Kurt Andersen (book), and Jack O'Brien (direction). The play marks the debut of Elfman and Andersen.

Hansen details his work on 'Predator'
"Never in my four years of taking classes at Michigan State University did they teach you how to interview a naked man," Chris Hansen said, speaking at a Kansas State University student ballroom Wednesday night. The To Catch a Predator anchor was a popular draw, and he gave his experiences on the show that has resulted in, uh, exposing more than 300 would-be sexual predators. The lecture was packed.

'Lost' execs: 'Large and seismic events' ahead
Damon Lindelof and Carleton Cuse, the brains behind Lost, just finished writing this season's finale on Monday and are now polishing the script as two different crews shoot scenes to get the remaining episodes done. Lost will back next week on Thursday at 10 p.m., and the producers were just on the phone fielding questions about the future of the show -- short term and long term. They didn't spoil anything, but they offered tidbits here and there, so stop reading if you're a Lost purist. Otherwise, here are some of the key points from the press conference, starting with the fact that "Smokey" -- as they called the black smoke monster -- will be in the first episode.
Will someone die? Cuse said, "It's always a tricky thing when it comes to talking about death on the show. If we were to tease there was going to be a death, it would lead everybody to chase it down and spoil it. But if we say everyone's safe, that would ruin the dramatic impact of the family. There are definitely some very large and seismic events that will happen to our castaways by the end of the season. Some people's fates will be clear and others will not be so clear."
What made Locke turn into a main character? "I don't think we ever viewed Locke as a side character," said Cuse, adding that the Jack/Locke "conflict" is "really the central conflict. ... There's a big culmination of that that also takes place in this season's finale."
Will we see Emilie de Ravin next season? "We don't want to comment on any particular character's fate. That would spoil the show between now and the end of the season. There are some very compelling events that that take place for Claire's character between now and the end of the season," says Cuse.
Will we see more of Jeff Fahey (shown here)? "We love him," says Lindelof. "He was working in an orphanage in Kabul in Afghanistan and we tracked him down, and we knew he was coming back for a visit and we said, 'Hey would you like to go back to working in television?' And he took a look at the show and got excited about it."
What about the Jack/Sawyer/Kate love triangle? "All we can say is Sawyer is not one of the Oceanic Six and Jack and Kate are, and obviously there will be a huge focus in the final three hours ... in ultimately what happens to Sawyer. And it's all on the axis of the love triangle," says Lindelof, adding, "the Skaters (Kate and Sawyer fans) and the Jaters (Jack and Kate fans) will have a bounty of interesting romantic scenes."

Begley peddles bikes
Strangely enough, in all the Earth Day (4/22) celebrity-related pitches we've gotten, not one has included the most eco-friendly actor of them all: Ed Begley Jr.
But he's out there. In fact, at ecorazzi.com, Ed is inviting everyone to Chatsworth, Calif., to a factory outlet sale May 2-4 for all Currie iZip hybrid-electric bikes and scooters — some with discounts as steep as 70% off. And he'll be there to sign copies of his book Living Like Ed. The appearance is being done in conjunction with the 14th annual California “Bike to Work Week” in May. And it also happens to coincide with the ridiculously high gas prices we're all facing at the pump. "Next to walking, cycling has always been my preferred transportation choice” says Begley.

Carrie Underwood drinks up new gig
Just officially announced: Carrie Underwood is a vitaminwater convert. Joining the celeb endorsement team that includes 50 Cent, Jennifer Aniston, Tom Brady and Shaquille O’Neill, Carrie taped her first TV commercial -- she plays an astronaut -- for vitaminwater last week in Newark, and those photos began popping up on blogs. The ad will debut in mid-June in movie theaters and then appear on TV. Carrie will also be designing a limited-edition bottle label, and the brand will be a big part of her Carnival Ride Tour through this spring and summer.

Maura Tierney: 'I want them to kill me'
When ER wraps up the series in 2009, it will mark the end of Maura Tierney's 10th year on the show. And she's ready to go, she tells AOL TV: "I want them to kill me. And they won't. They refused to kill Abby. But no, I totally trust [the writers]."
Tierney will be back for a handful of episodes next season, and says, "I had a really great time there, but it's been almost a decade, and part of me is ready to move on, but part of me is going to be very sad about it."

Shatner reminisces about 'Trek' relationships
William Shatner says he never realized until after Star Trek ended how disliked he was by the rest of the cast, according to the New York Daily News. In Up Till Now, his autobiography, he describes putting in years of hard work after the show trying to patch things up with the other actors. One of his closest pals: Leonard Nimoy (Mr. Spock), whose alcoholism during the series he discusses at length.

He told her so?

Tom Brokaw is weighing in on the Katie Couric situation, saying: "I told her when she left that it’s a dive off the high board," the veteran anchor said this week during a visit to Boston. “This is harder than it looks, to go from the morning to the evening."
Brokaw, after all, was a host on Today before heading to do the Nightly News solo in 1983, a post he held for more than two decades. "But the last thing I’m going to do is get involved in Katie’s business," he added.

SAG signs interim deal
After just two days of contract negotiations with the majors, the Screen Actors Guild has signed interim deals with indie feature producers that would allow actors to continue working on select projects even if a strike occurs, reports Variety.
