John Cena had a stranglehold on the WWE universe for more than two decades as he racked up 16 world championships and several WrestleMania main event headliners. He was the face of the WWE setting a record for granting the most wishes for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. After winning the Elimination Chamber this past weekend, he solidified himself to be in the main event at this year's Wrestlemania with the chance to break Ric Flair's championship record by winning his 17th.
On Saturday night at WWE's Elimination Chamber PLE, Cena broke the hearts of millions who grew up watching him when he kicked undisputed WWE champion Cody Rhodes between the legs following a cue from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Cena is set to retire this year from in ring competition and has 10 months left and less than 35 scheduled dates.
While wrestling is pre-determined, this was something NO ONE saw coming as The Rock and Paul "HHH" Levesque spoke about in the press conference post show. Fans have been begging for Cena to go "heel" or bad guy for many years and we finally got our wish. The question is - Why now? What made Cena decide that this was the right time to change the game for his long illustrious career? With his next appearance set to be in mid March for Monday Night Raw on Netflix, all eyes will be on him.
